"You will never forget a visit to our flower auction"28 January 2019
No one ever forgets a visit to Royal FloraHolland in Aalsmeer for the rest of their life. That's how much of an impression it makes. People become more aware of the entire process behind the sales of flowers and plants. Each year the Visitors Department welcomes thousands of guests and takes them on tours. Are you curious about their story? Read this interview with Natascha, staff member of the Visitors Department.
Natascha begins, "The gigantic sea of flowers visible as I look down from the bridge is truly a pleasure. The visitors are full of admiration, which is great to see. Many visitors are not aware of the massive logistics operation carried out daily that is required to get the flowers and plants to where they need to be."
Each season has its own special charm. The quantity of roses around Valentine's Day, the tulips in the run-up to spring, the brief appearance of peonies or the atmosphere of Christmas in the winter. Natascha adds, "I especially enjoy the lovely flowery scent, I always compare it to the sweetest natural perfume."
Natascha continues, "We see an enormous peak in the number of visitors when Keukenhof is open, around the beginning of spring. People wait in long queues to visit the auction. We really enjoy hearing all the ohhhs and ahhhs, the questions they ask and their happy faces. It gives us so much satisfaction that our small team of four people is able to answer all the questions so they leave the auction grounds of Royal FloraHolland with a very positive impression."
That the visitors are clearly impressed is evident from their reactions. They talk about "a ballet of flowers" and the only thing that is missing is some music by Bach.
